Dog training collar for positive training
While many people use electronic collars in conjunction with negative punishment methods like leash jerking, an electronic collar can also be used for positive training using positive reinforcement techniques. Positive reinforcement uses rewards and communication as ways to encourage correct behavior while creating a stronger bond between you and your pup while simultaneously relieving any stress during training sessions for both of you.
Before using a collar on your pet, take time to familiarize yourself with it by practicing on yourself first and understanding which types of stimulation your pup responds best to. A great way to do this is through practicing with it on yourself so you can observe which kinds of stimuli make a difference – once you know which works best start training your canine friend!
First step to teaching your dog to associate an e-collar with you and commands: press the continuous button while giving commands such as “come”, and give a treat as soon as they turn away from its stimulation. This teaches your pup that when he hears your voice he can look forward to receiving something; just as with clicker training they learn to associate sound of voice with rewards!
Gradually lengthen the time between your commands and your dog’s responses until you feel comfortable using an electronic collar during training sessions – just be sure to only do this if teaching new skills rather than correcting an unwanted behavior as this would constitute positive punishment (or rather, negative reinforcement).
