Although health care for a boxer dog is a really easy dog to take care of, there are certain issues that have to be watched for so that the dog stays healthy for life. There are certain things that can be done to care for a boxer dog to help ensure its health throughout the different stages of its life. Boxer dog eye care is also part of this process, as there are some eye problems that are particular to the boxer breed as opposed to other breeds of dogs. One of the most important things that can be done for boxer dog eye care and overall health is to take the dog for yearly check ups at the veterinary office. In these check ups, the vet can check the dog’s body both internally and externally to see if there are any changes or problems from the year before. He can also give the dog its vaccinations so that he is protected from preventable diseases that dogs can get.
Eye Problems Associated With Boxer Dog Eye Care
There are some boxer dogs that have eye problems that require boxer dog eye care. One of these problems is called ‘cherry eye’ but is known scientifically as the prolapse of the third eyelid. This condition will happen without any warning but is not painful and usually does not require much in the way of boxer dog eye care. Another type of eye problem in boxer dogs requiring care is called entropian. In this condition, steps do need to be taken in boxer dog eye care to correct the issue so that further problems do not occur. In this condition, the eyelid rolls inward so that the eyelashes will rub against the eyeball and scratch it. If it is not corrected it can lead to permanent eye damage.
Besides these boxer dog eye care issues, there are other health problems that are common to the boxer breed. One of these is cancer in various forms. For some reason, the boxer breed seems to be more prone to cancer than other breeds, so check ups on a regular basis are essential for catching the cancer early so that it can be treated. Boxers can also have some food allergies, so proper diet is essential for raising a healthy boxer dog. In some cases, the dog will have to be on a lamb and rice dog food that uses whole grains and real meat in it so that food allergies are reduced. There is also a condition that is called the bloat in which there is air in the stomach and the stomach twists which can be life threatening. All of these issues can be treated effectively if they are caught early by the veterinarian.
