It would truly be nice if I could say my dog is trained and I will never again need to reprimand him for doing things he shouldn’t be doing. However, I have to live in reality with my dog, and he will continue to push the boundaries, sometimes, to see if perhaps they moved. Since human do this also, it’s not something I believe I will ever train out of him.
However, training him is an ongoing task and the puppy training collar I got when he was a puppy, still comes in handy. He is not a hunting dog, but I doubt the nature of the beast is that different. Hunting dogs require a great deal of training, and a hunting dog training collar can be a great help in this training. There are literally a hundred or so choices to help you in the specific needs of a hunting dog. The hunting dog training collar comes in both adult dog sizes and a puppy training collar. For the hunting dog training collar you will have specific and varied needs depending on how you are training your dog to hunt, that will require some research.
Choices You Need to Make
When you are deciding which hunting dog training collar you want, first verify what sizes are available. Make sure they have a size that will fit your dog. A hunting dog training collar fits differently than a normal collar which should have some extra slack away from the dogs neck. As contact with the neck is necessary, verify it will work for you dog.
Choice of signal is also very varied. There are some that provide a small zap, other a vibration, some water and some use odors that dogs don’t like. You have already been training your hunting dog so you know how his personality works, so choose accordingly. My dog things any water that isn’t a lake or a nasty puddle is from the underworld so the water hunting dog training collar was a great success.
The range of the collar can be especially important for a hunting dog. A short range collar that will work for a home-bound city dog, is going to be far too short range to be any use to you as a hunting dog training collar. When you look at the range subtract some if it, the range is designed to be the ultimate in perfect conditions. Those two factors almost never combine with hunting, so take it with a grain of salt.
Waterproof products are much more important to a hunting dog training collar than the city dog training collar. Many city dogs never get out in the rain, but your hunting dog is going to be running through water, and needs real waterproofing.
